Mantles for Missions
Ok, so it's been a thousand light years since I blogged. Haven't entered anything since the Arc de Triumph. That's a tough one to follow. I've been out of the loop off my feet for almost three months. My horse's daddy tripped with my dear friend riding him. She went over his shoulder and he went down on my leg! I'm back on my feet but it will be awhile before I'm back in the saddle.
Having time off - literally - has given me a break - also literally - to work on my novel which I started over 30 years ago, cross-stitch, make five red flannel Christmas stockings, and crochet a prayer shawl for my very dear friend Jennifer (the same friend that was riding my horse's daddy). Her mom was a wonderful help by driving my car back from Marshalltown since I was doped up on morphine for pain and laid out like a corpse on the back seat of Jennifer's van. Jennifer said her mom liked the color apple green. So I prayed to the Lord to help me find or make something appropriate in apple green. The next day I was in Hobby Lobby and there at the counter was a customer who was wearing a beautiful apple green crocheted fashion scarf! My mouth was a rush of questions: Did you make that yourself? How did you do it? How many stitches did you cast on? Did you use a single crochet or double crochet stitch? What hook size did you use. She was most agreeable to rally back the answers and added, "I bought the yarn here and it's on sale now." Oh God bless this dear lady! I bought the yarn, made the scarf, and returned to Hobby Lobby for more yarn the very next day! Upshot is I've made seven different scarves in addition to the one I am giving as a gift and I'm selling them for $10 each. $2 buys more yarn, and the remaining $8 is being sent to a little Church in Marshalltown that had all of its antique stained glass windows vandalized. .
So, if you know of anyone who would like a beautiful, hand-crocheted fashion scarf that will help a tiny congregation, please let me know. It only takes me a couple of hours to make these and I don't want to quit until I have at least $100 to send to the Church.
Oh, and I'll try to remember to blog tomorrow. God blessed me to pray God bless you.
